The Rankin Bridge’s official name is the George Rankin Jr Memorial Bridge. The bridge carries the Green Belt over the Monongahela River 9.6 miles upstream from the Point. The bridge was completed in 1951. The bridge connects Rankin and Braddock on one side to Whitaker on the other. The bridge utilizes a steel cantilever spandrel-braced arch deck design.
Fun fact: George Rankin Jr. was a Scottish born politician. He served the Wilkinsburg area as a State Senator form 1935-38.
